Christmas is not quite here and yet many in the tech world are focusing their energies on CES 2026. CES is an annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association. It is held in January at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Winchester, Nevada. The event hosts presentations of new products and technologies in the consumer electronics industry.

Outside of the formal introduction of new products and initiatives, new technologies are discussed and the future of the sector is debated.

One company set to present new technologies is Other World Computing (OWC), who will be showcasing a new lineup of its solutions during CES 2026 at Pepcom’s Digital Experience on January 5 and ShowStoppers @ CES on January 6. The company has provided Digital Journal with a preview.

This includes advances with Thunderbolt 5 (which is superior to conventional USB-C). Thunderbolt 5 is a high-performance data protocol that uses the USB-C connector, offering vastly superior speeds (80-120 Gbps), more powerful charging (up to 240W), and advanced video/data tunnelling.

Thunderbolt 5 stackable hybrid storage solution

OWC StudioStack is said to be the world’s first, fastest, and highest-capacity Thunderbolt 5 stackable hybrid storage solution for Mac Studio and Mac mini machines.

With the OWC StudioStack, users can upgrade their Mac Studio and Mac mini devices with a very fast and high capacity stackable hybrid storage solution, housed within an aircraft-grade aluminium. The technical specifications are:

  • Internal Class Speed: Up to 6302MB/s real-world performance
  • Greater Capacity: Up to 8TB NVMe SSD and up to 24TB HDD storage space
  • Expanded Connectivity: Three Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) 80Gb/s and three USB-A 10Gb/s
  • Wide Compatibility: Use with Thunderbolt 5/4, USB4 Macs and PCs, and Thunderbolt 3 Macs
  • Aircraft-grade aluminum offers rugged protection of installed SSDs plus effective heat dissipation to keep everything cool for consistent top speed
  • Near Silent Operation: Engineered with a smart, adaptive fan that activates only when needed, making it ideal for uninterrupted creative focus
  • Future Flexibility: Both DIY “build your own” and ready-to-run solutions are easily future upgradeable with a faster, higher capacity 2280 NVMe M.2 SSD and a higher capacity SATA 3.5″ HDD or 2.5″ SSD

OWC Thunderbolt 5 Dual 10GbE Network Dock

This dock enables users to connect to multiple high-speed networks, access blazing-fast network-attached storage (NAS), and expand device setups via a single Thunderbolt cable. The key points are:

  • Multi-Network Versatility: Dual, fully independent 10Gb/s Ethernet ports and a front-facing 2.5Gb/s Ethernet port let you connect up to three separate networks and/or high-speed network devices simultaneously
  • Extreme Throughput: Bond the 10GbE ports with link aggregation and access your NAS at up to 20Gb/s from your notebook computer
  • One Simple Solution: Easily handle complex multi-network workflows, unlock high-bandwidth network storage connectivity, and expand your connectivity possibilities with this dock and included Thunderbolt 5 cable
  • Workflow Transformation: Experience workstation/server-class networking from your notebook and enable workflows that were previously cumbersome or impossible.

OWC 2-Meter Thunderbolt 5 (USB-C) Cable

This technology is engineered with signal amplification, precision shielding, and end-to-end signal integrity. It is designed for workflows that demand maximum speed, display performance, and power delivery, along with all the capabilities of Thunderbolt 5.  The technology has up to 80 Gb/s bi-directional data performance and up to 120 Gb/s video stream performance for multi-display, high-bandwidth workflows.
