Providing electricity in the middle of nowhere no longer depends on noisy generators or fossil fuels. A group of German students developed eTrail-Ing, an innovative solar trailer capable of generating energy and refrigerating medical supplies or food for several days, without emissions or connection to the grid.
The project was born at Fachhochschule Dortmund in response to a growing need: ensuring clean and reliable energy in emergency situations, festivals, or scientific missions. Its design combines photovoltaic technology, battery storage, and a hydrogen cell, all integrated into a compact trailer.
With a solar power of 3,915 W and a fuel cell of 2,500 W, the system achieves up to seven days of total autonomy, even powering a refrigerated space of over six cubic meters. Thanks to its digital management, it monitors in real time the generation and consumption, ensuring energy efficiency and stability.
This independence makes it a key tool in the face of natural disasters or prolonged outages, where maintaining the cold chain for vaccines, blood, or food is vital to save lives.

Solar Trailer: Technology with Environmental Purpose
The eTrail-Ing represents a real alternative to the use of diesel generators, which continue to be the main source of mobile energy in much of the world. By eliminating fossil fuel consumption, it directly reduces pollutant gas emissions and environmental noise, two common impacts in crisis areas and massive events.
Its modularity allows it to be adapted to different needs: from supplying small mobile hospitals to providing electricity in rural areas without an electrical grid. At outdoor festivals or fairs, it can replace polluting installations and promote the use of renewable energy to the public.
Furthermore, being designed and built by students, the project has a strong educational component. It combines engineering, sustainability, and environmental management, fostering technical training oriented towards the energy challenges of the future.
